A BAR MITZVAH - CELEBRATING JEWISH EDUCATION
One reason Judaism has always been an outlier for society, is mostly because its principal religious and social activity is education. Judaism has been a leader in its attitude about education that starts during childhood at home and in school. And it has deep and ancient roots.
What did G‑d find so special about Abraham? Fearless? Faithful? Visionary? Brilliant orator? None of the above. G‑d says Himself: "He is dear to me, because I know that he will command his children and his household after him to follow in the ways of G‑d, to do charity and justice." Abraham, granddaddy of the Jewish people, was first and foremost an educator of his family–as well as to the world.
However Jewish education doesn’t come easy and doesn’t come cheap. Our ancestors sacrificed everything they had for Jewish education.
Rabbi Sholom DovBer of Lubavitch once said: "Just as it is incumbent on every Jew to put on tefillin every day, so too it is an unequivocal duty on every individual, from the greatest scholar to the most simple of folk, to set aside a half-hour each day in which to think about the education of their children."
At Chabad we understand the importance of education and strive to bring it to our children. Even those in their older years must do all they can to ensure a future for Jewish children.
The "Jewish Educational Fund" is an endowment fund that will carry on the support for Jewish Education for generations to come. You have an opportunity to give the gift of education. Donations can be made via cash, stocks, real estate, annuities, IRA’s and more.
